John asked:

How are everyones plans going for 50 years of the charts?

We've just finished our own event - started at 7am last Thursday, playing every number one hit in chronological order and finishing at about 10.30pm last Sunday with Westlife.

HBA's indefatigable president June Snowden launched the marathon on Thursday - thanks June!

Anyone got other publicity ideas we could all use?

One idea: We asked Aylesbury's Town Mayor to open our 28-day RSL for the run-up to our auction and chart marathon.

It turned out that the mayor, Ray Ghent, used to be a hospital radio presenter (with Harefield Hospital Radio in the late 1970s). So we invited him to come and present a show a couple of Sundays ago.

This got us two good mentions in the local paper (apart from all the others concerning the auction and the marathon). A short article before the mayor's programme and a longer one with a large photo the following week.

Another thing we did was to get "local rock hero" John Otway along to our outside broadcast trailer on the first day of our auction. John sang "Bunsen burner" live and then auctioned a pair of tickets and backstage pass to his sell-out concert in Aylesbury.
